Heartbreak for Lowe: Junior Guard Out for Season with Shoulder Injury

By Big Blue Insider January 13, 2026 at 02:00 pm

In devastating news for Big Blue Nation, head coach Mark Pope confirmed Monday that junior guard Jaland Lowe will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season after suffering a significant shoulder injury in Saturday's win over Mississippi State.

The Injury

Lowe went down hard in the second half after contesting a shot and landing awkwardly on his right shoulder. He left the game and did not return, though Kentucky went on to win 92-68.

"The MRI confirmed what we feared," Pope said during his weekly press conference. "Jaland has a torn labrum that will require surgery. He'll have that procedure next week."

Impact on the Roster

Lowe was averaging 14.1 points and 5.2 assists per game, serving as the team's primary ball-handler and floor general. His loss leaves a significant void in the backcourt.

"We play for Jaland now," Pope emphasized. "Every possession, every game. He's been a leader for this program, and we're going to make sure his sacrifice means something."

Moving Forward

Freshman Jasper Johnson and sophomore Kam Williams are expected to see increased minutes in Lowe's absence. The Wildcats may also explore transfer portal options, though Pope declined to comment on specific plans.

Lowe is expected to apply for a medical redshirt, which would give him an additional year of eligibility.
